PREVENTING, ASSESSING & MANAGING SKIN TEARS

As we age, our skin becomes more fragile and therefore, more susceptible to tearing. Being able to adequately assess and treat wounds in the elderly is an essential skill, and can greatly increase the likelihood of positive patient outcomes.

This session will provide you with a review of the anatomy and physiology of the skin, before investigating the impact of ageing, illness and medicines on skin health. The definitions, categorisation and treatment of various types of wounds will be also covered, providing you with the knowledge and skills to better manage patients with fragile skin.
